Maui Suzuki Violin plays in public!

This weekend I had the chance to listen, watch, and take photographs of the Maui Suzuki Violin students do their thing at a public fund raising event. It was incredible seeing kids of all ages be excited about music.

The kids played for 90 minutes and the music was like candy to my ears. Seeing the passion and joy in the faces made it worth all the investment of time and money.

I think learning to play music is like learning another language. Good for them!

Learning the violin takes practice and this means less time in front of the T.V.

As I write this post my family is upstairs playing. It is wonderful!

I know the parents of these kids are very proud. I was thinking a the next recital I should photograph them so they can see the joy and pride that shows on their faces.

In 2002, we started designing one of a kind books and have worked with many companies to print and bind them. We found one in New York that runs a great operation and love selling their books with our photography.

Coffee table books are truly one of a kind pieces of family art. Each page is designed with one goal to tell the story of your family. We do not use any software to make a book, just your photographs and our imagination.

Looking at the lens and saying “cheese” in order to evoke a smile is not the status quo anymore. Sure the pictures have their place but families today seem to want something that evokes some emotion and tell a story.

Congratulations to all of Class 2012s! May your achievement will give courage to go thorough your next adventure called LIFE!

Recently, I received a wonderful thank you message from my sweet client, Laura Mayron. If you do not mind, I would like to share it. Because, It gave me smile ear to ear. �

“I hope you’re doing well and that you had a great birthday! I just wanted to thank you again for the amazing work you’ve done on my graduation invitations. I absolutely love them, and I’m not the only one. You wouldn’t believe the response they’ve gotten! Everybody loves them, and I’m not exaggerating. For example, a classmate posted on my Facebook wall about them (you can go see it!), and another one just messaged me asking about them–she said that everyone is “raving about them,” and they are! I’ve heard from my college counselor that people have been stopping by her office just to see it on her bulletin board because everyone is talking about how beautiful they are! Everyone says that they wishes they had one like it–that the photos and layout are just beautiful, and one teacher of mine said it’s the best one she’s ever seen in all her years of teaching! Your work is absolutely amazing, and while I’m so happy about the positive response, in a way I’m not surprised at all–your work is beautiful! I’ve been telling everyone about you, since of course everyone asks where I got such amazing invitations, and I hope that even more good will come your way! Of course, you are more than welcome to come to graduation–I’d love to have you there if you can make it! Thank you again!”

Working with younger generation adults like Laura always gives me new level of inspiration. I’m truly happy that I could come across to her life as photographer. Capturing one’s developmental stage such as this senior portrait of Laura is a gift to me. Thank you Laura!

The wonderful thing about being part of a family is the love and relationships that exist amongst parents and children. True things are not always perfect, and once in a while things can get hard, but the bottom line is that being part of a family means your never alone and part of something bigger than yourself.

The day may come when you find yourself wondering why you care and do so much for family and they don’t seem to appreciate it. If and when this seek out the family photos that are hidden in a closet somewhere. Looking at these portraits created over time will make you smile and bring back all kinds of good memories.

Summer vacations are always fun, especially when they are in Maui. The island has so many fun activities ranging from tours of the island, snorkeling, diving, horseback riding, hang gliding, chilling at the beach, and more.

If you are coming to Maui this summer don’t forget to plan a family portrait. Children grow and in a blink of the eye are soon graduating high school then college. Take advantage of the wonderful times your together as a family. Later on you will glad you did.

Anniversaries & reunions are the perfect time to have a family portrait made

A large percentage of our portrait business is made up of anniversaries and family reunions. We understand there a lot of logistics involved in getting multiple families together and over the last 13 years have designed a three step process that takes into account the needs of the group as well as individual families within the group.

Daddy's girls are growing up

First is planning. Lets say we have a client whose parents are about to celebrate their 50th anniversary. In this example lets imagine we have three siblings with their families in addition to the parents celebrating their 50th. That means we really have four families.

Each family needs to be involved in the planning. This process takes time and energy, but pays off in the end because you determine what you want and establish the costs are so there are no surprises.

Most important planning makes you look at your walls and think about sizes before the session. Planning also lets us consider the clothing to be worn so the portrait completes the room rather than competes with the room.

It may be that one of your siblings recently had professional portraits done and is not interested in more of their family but is motivated to be part of the group image for your parents. We do not want to pressure siblings into having portraits created. Nor do we wish to take time away from members of your family that want to have portraits. When planning is done well, we know what sub families want portraits and make time to do everything.

Will the siblings be hiring the photographer and providing the session and a modest wall portrait as a gift to the parents. Has a plan been devised.

The second step is to do what we planned. We will meet on location and create the images discussed.

The third step is the image projection. This is where famlies see the images for the first time and place thier order. We suggest large families stagger the times of the progjection so there are only two-three families in the projection room at time. We can show you the portraits at the sizes you planned for as well as any other size you might want to see. We can also show different cropping . This way you know what to expect when your order arrives.
