Maui Photography – Projecting portraits on the big screen makes it easy for clients to select their favorites

At Maui Photography we understand not only how important the portraits we create are for our clients, but also how precious each minute of vacation time is. That is why we spend time before the session planning. Knowing what portraits are desired makes the entire  process easier for the clients.

Several years ago we had our portraits done on the beach and the photographer showed us 64 photographs of the same pose and told us to choose the one. It took us hours and was very painful.  At the same time this was a great learning  lesson. I decided that as a professional I know what the best images are and need to do everything possible to make the process of selection fun, and fast.

So after each session, I edit the portraits to just the best.  Then project them on a five foot screen. It is easier for clients to view images on a giant screen, than in a 6 inch window on the computer.  The software we use allows us to crop in any number of ways, and  project at any size you can imagine so clients can see exactly what the finished product will look like before leaving the studio.

If there is a concern about an eye being open, or a smile, we can zoom in and show it detail.   We can also talk about retouching.  The digital world is a wonderful one with all kinds of tools to make portraits look better. Unfortunately once clients go home, it is not possible to project, talk about options, retouching, and size.

Previous clients have told us that coming in for the projection was one of the highlights of the trip and a great investment of time.

If coming to Maui, please give us a call.  There is no charge for a consultation. 808 870 3686.

Consumers guide to photography on Maui

Aloha everyone!

41002_Magic Sunset_a

With the holidays approaching, many families are considering have a portrait commissioned.  There are now over 300 photographers on the island, and each one has a nice website.  All have different levels of experience, ability, and fee structures.   Make sure you get what you want.   Take the time to find the right photographer for you. This guide was written to help consumers find the best portrait photographer for their family.

On behalf of Maui Photography, we would like to wish everyone a joyous holiday season.  May you all be well and be surrounded by those that love you!

Plan for success

Having a family portrait created is something people do not do often. Accordingly most people do not know very much about photography, so they shop based on what they know and that is price.  As a parent that has to live within a budget I understand that.

As a professional portrait photographer I am concerned because their is a huge difference in knowledge, experience, and artistic ability between a professional that charges what they are worth, and a newer younger, less experienced shooter who is willing to charge a lot less.

It seems people hire a photographer when they have a need for a portrait much like  when a Dr. is hired because of a medical problem.   There are general Dr.s and specialists and depending upon the need is the type of Dr that is hired.

Since people do not have portraits created often, it makes sense that when they do they should do it to the best of their ability.  There is nothing worse than paying for a service and not getting what you want. Unfortunately this happens in Maui, as people shop for photographers using price as their main consideration.

We are proud to offer all our clients a 100% WOW guarantee on all wall portraits on canvas or aluminum.  If the finished portrait arrives and you don’t react with a WOW, we will work on the portrait until you do.  In the unlikely event we can not get a WOW, all money for that portrait will be returned.

Animation and action serve to create portraits that evoke an emotional response

It always makes me smile when families are up to creating portraits that show some action and animation.  I really believe that this style of portrait communicates love, playfulness, and togetherness.  Take this portrait for example.   You can’t see the faces of the people, but you know they are having fun and making the most of their time together in paradise.  Years from now when the family members view the portrait they will immediately go back to Hawaii and remember all the great times and experiences had as a family.  As kids grow and get married this portrait will become one of their favorite family possessions.

November we are going to have…

Maui Engagement Photography – Mark and Judy

My passion toward my profession is to capture my clients highlighted moment and make it into a treasure.  I capture your love, laughter and happiness.  Thank you.  You are energizing me.  lol!

I received a phone call from Mark.  He was so excited with his idea of how to propose to his girlfriend Judy.  He reserved a table at Banyan Tree Restaurant in Ritz Carlton Kapalua and asked them to create a Menu just for Judy.  Menu looked like this.

“A hand picked husband complete with a life time of love, filled with devotions and covered with delicious happiness.  All that is required is that you say yes – Judy.  Will you marry me?”

When I saw this menu, Tears came up to my eyes.  Oh no, I go to work.

Judy have no idea what is going to happen.  I’m hiding behind bushes being Paparazzi.

She is reading the Menu.  Probably, twice, three times and…

“Oh my…  Yes!”

Can you see her happy “Surprise” tears?

Seal that promise with kiss.  Congratulations!

Phew!  I’m off from Paparazzi duty behind bushes.  Now, engagement portrait begins.

Because, we did not have enough time till Dinner, I offered them to do proper session at the beach next day.

Wishing many years of happiness to Mark and Judy.

Love,

Mieko
